What We Do
We run 12 week exercise and wellbeing education programs at the Eastbrooke Centre in Belmont.
Each group has up to 14 participants who have twice weekly exercise sessions in a gym environment, supervised by exercise experts, followed by an informational or group walk each session.
The Belmont centre is a safe, supervised environment without the loud music, shiny buffed bodies, and tight lycra so often associated with regular gymnasiums.
The facility closes its doors to the public during the fixed times that the STRIVE 2 THRIVE participants are in attendance, allowing them to participate without concern for their appearance or the physical constraints they may have as a result of their cancer treatments and associated side effects, and to socialise, sharing stories and offering support to each other throughout the program.
Each participant is individually assessed and is given their own unique exercise program designed to improve their strength and core, whilst taking into account their current health and physical limitations.
Along with the gym based programs, participants are encouraged to join in supervised group weekly walks which take into consideration individual ability and stamina.
Oure participants are also given access to qualified health professionals to educate and encourage healthy and responsible lifestyle choices, and following one of the gym sessions
Our participants have repeatedly reported renewed drive and energy as a result of the Strive 2 Thrive program, and have described it as giving them the much needed emotional and physical strength to return to normal everyday activities and employment - in short, to move forward with their lives.
Irrespective of the type of cancer diagnosed and treated, the program is available, via medical referral, to any person who has completed active treatment within the past 24 months.
“A big “thank you” to the team for organizing the Strive 2 Thrive program.
It is a tremendous innovation to assist in the wellbeing and recovery of all who have been through a very difficult time.”
each week, the participants attend an interactive information session involving a variety of guest speakers who are experts in their fields - such as Oncologists, Nurses, Dieticians, Counsellors, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Therapists etc.
